A Musing
The prudent disciple MUST let God to choose their friends, The main reason, is that our sight is limited while His is limitless. God looks at the heart, while we merely see outward appearances, which include the appearances that people present. He is omniscient, so he sees the span of our lives, (our purpose, destiny, where He will ultimately lead us, and everyone and everything we will need), while we see the temporary present. He gives us however, the freedom to choose, and the responsibility to honour His choice.
What are we choosing?
To see that persons‘ weaknesses and to bear with them in love-Colossians 3:13
To be patient with them-Ephesians 4:2
To love them deeply- 1 Peter 4:8
To cherish and champion them- John 15;12-13
To encourage and support them- 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Galatians 6:2
To love them as CHRIST loves us and them- John 13;34
Prophetic revelation on its own will not sustain any friendship or relationship. Even if God sends prophetic revelation, a dove, an angel or a sign from heaven, we have a choice. That is precisely why we have seen some marriages end in divorce. In the beginning almost everything was “God said!“ Then it slowly changes to “did God really say?“ Echoing the words of the Father of Lies, (riddled by and drenched in deception), in the Garden of Eden. So is God now a liar? No for his word says He isn‘t like man that he should lie or repent, BUT we as men lie and repent. We shift our minds like the wind shifts its direction (double-minded), and then we attribute our actions to God and His will. We forget this truth saints-
God will allow our choices, if we don‘t honour HIS.
God will allow our choices, if we don‘t honour HIS.
Let God override your preferences, your desires for a certain aesthetic in a person, class, creed or even spiritual giftedness. Let Him choose, and honour His choice. For he knows what is best for you and HIS BEST is better than yours.
Lastly, but importantly, instead of solely praying for godly friends, BECOME ONE. Become more like Christ, so that you will have the spiritual substance to steward, sustain and maintain the friendship, the gift, you are asking Him for.
